Biography

Richard TiainenRichard Tiainen was born in Brisbane in 1947. While working in the Commonwealth public service, he undertook tertiary studies in the business studies faculty of the Queensland University of Technology as a part-time student, fathered three children, and moved house no less than five times. He still lives in Brisbane with his wife, Alison.

In 1988, Richard accepted a voluntary retrenchment offer and left the public service. His immediate alternative career was the real estate industry although he decided to stand as an independent candidate for the Queensland State parliament in 1989 when he concluded that "someone had to do something!"

As a real estate salesperson and then as a real estate agent, Richard has endeavoured to offer an honest and reliable service to clients whether they be buyers or sellers, property investors or tenants. As he approaches his eighteenth year in the business, Richard has decided (again!) that it is about time somebody did something about giving the world an accurate perspective of the real estate industry - that is, how it really works - from the inside.

Apart from REAL ESTATE - So What's Real?, Richard is also the author of some thirty poems (The Mudlark's Book of Verse) and twelve children's stories (Uncle Dan's Adventure Series).

His poetry works go way back to 1966. There was a lull for many years as he carved his way though life but of more recent times that love of poetic expression and inspiration returned. The Mudlark's Book of Verse is full of all kinds of deep and personal emotions as well as keen observations about life and adventure.

The Uncle Dan Adventure Series came to him out of the blue. Richard has drawn upon his own life experiences to compile these stories. They are aimed at perhaps four to seven year olds, those children who enjoy new experiences and adventure, are moving away from pictures to the learning of words, and who are capable of understanding the meaning and purpose behind fun stories.

Richard is also available for speaking engagements at conferences and conventions.
